Mentor Desalyn De-Souza and, together, mentors Dana Gliserman Kopans and Kim Stote have been named Scholars Across the College for 2016-2017.
Since 2000, more than 30 colleagues have been chosen as “scholars” to be available “across the college” to share their ideas, research, reading, writing and professional activities with members of the college's community for a period of one year. These scholars have been invited to make presentations at faculty gatherings, address alumni and community meetings, lead discussions in a study group or a residency, or meet with interested students. These colleagues have been chosen to serve as resources for the entire college. Generous funding from the Empire State College Foundation covers their honoraria and travel expenses.
Mentors Julie Shaw and Margaret Clark-Plaskie served as scholars during the 2015-2016 academic year.
Alan Mandell, who guides this collegewide program, noted: “We very much thank Julie Shaw and Margaret Clark-Plaskie for their wonderful efforts over this past year to help us all gain new insights into adult learning and identity development. We are excited that Desalyn De-Souza, whose focus is on child care and working with families and children, and Dana Gliserman Kopans/Kim Stote whose focus is on the historical/cultural/scientific dimensions of commodities such as tea, chocolate and wine, will be our 2016-2017 scholars. We hope that over the coming year, many of us will have an opportunity to hear their presentations and learn from their scholarly work.”
Scholars can be invited to visit any location across the college by emailing them directly. More details about their areas of interest and possible presentations will be available after the reading period.
